i have had my moments to talk about this. there a number of points.

low resolution makes the viewer an active participant. it is subtle and does not reveal everything at once. the viewer completes the image by his imagination. digital noise and artifacts make the picture temporal.

the veil is more erotic as it implies more erotic depth which cannot be exhausted right that moment.

lo-fi imagery is inherently dreamlike. rather than being sterile, it becomes a memory. it is similar to the feeling of how we remember each other.

the eyes were not made for details. intoxicated by love, lover cannot see properly, and lo-fi nudes share the same quality.

it speaks of the moment. "this was me, in my most intimate setting, i have opted to share myself in this vulnerable moment with you, at this time."

said imagery is a private moment, transmitted imperfectly. we need to take time to appreciate all the things worked out for this moment: portable camera phone, broadband internet underlying backend of messaging software, high resolution screen and most importantly, compression algorithm.
